The film shows Hollywood to be a corrupts world of its own that only cares about the image it presents rather then the effects it has on others.

From my point view the book does a better job on letting us understand the characters and their motivations for their actions.

Structured into twenty-seven chapters like movie scenes, the book presents an insider’s perspective of Hollywood’s dream factory and underworld society.

West achieves a sense of reality with his richly detailed, accurate settings of the Hollywood landscape—movie lots, hotels, churches, restaurants, bars, brothels, streets, and canyons.

This prevents him from climbing the ladder of fame which he so desperately aspires to accomplish.

The film shows the way Hollywood tries to hide behind its self so that now one knows where the fantasy end and reality starts. If Homer reached to pick up the purse, thinking there was money in it, he would yank it away and scream with laughter."(195) He plays the same games any normal child would play but most likely due to his whack job mother doesn't know how far is to far.

The book and the film each have their own versions of characters. The movie shows him to be a person who seems to live for torturing Homer and others.

They travel west hoping to escape less than perfect lives and pursue success in Hollywood.

The characters in this novel dream of a life of luxury, having lots of money, and living happily ever after.
